About

About Les Éditions du Rasoir

An independent publishing house in development, created for serious non-fiction and readers willing to stay with difficult questions long enough to examine the arguments behind them.

What Les Éditions du Rasoir is

The house is intentionally small in its present form. Its credibility is meant to come from the books it publishes, the care with which claims are presented, and the clarity with which editorial choices are made, not from borrowed institutional grandeur.

The name

Why “Rasoir”?

The name carries two related references. First, it evokes the narrow edge on which life and, more generally, the fundamental parameters of the universe appear to be finely tuned. Second, it recalls Ockham’s razor, the principle that theoretical entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity.

Together, these two references express an editorial preference for intellectual precision, explanatory economy, and arguments examined at their sharpest points.

Mission

Books that treat readers as capable of following a serious argument.

That means giving space to distinctions that matter, representing contested positions accurately, separating evidence from interpretation, and resisting the temptation to replace reasoning with slogans, prestige, or tribal reassurance.

Les Éditions du Rasoir aims to publish work that is intellectually demanding without becoming needlessly obscure, critical without becoming reflexively cynical, and independent without treating independence itself as a guarantee of correctness.

Editorial focus

A field of questions, not a permanent doctrinal perimeter.

Our areas of interest include science and faith, origins, Intelligent Design, philosophy of naturalism, epistemology, philosophy of science, history and sociology of science, expertise and institutions, public trust, science and society, ethics of technology, and serious intellectual controversy.

These subjects are connected by a common editorial concern: how claims are justified, how boundaries are drawn, how institutions exercise authority, and how readers can distinguish between evidence, method, interpretation, policy, and worldview.

Translation

Precision across linguistic boundaries.

Translation is part of the publishing vision of Les Éditions du Rasoir. Serious intellectual work should not lose precision simply because it crosses a linguistic boundary.

Where translated works are undertaken, the goal is to preserve technical meaning, argumentative structure, and authorial intent while producing prose that reads naturally in the target language. Specific languages, titles, rights arrangements, and translation projects will be announced only when they are confirmed.

Rigor and transparency

Make the reasoning visible enough to be examined.

Editorial seriousness requires more than correct grammar and attractive production. It also requires clarity about what kind of claim is being made, what evidence supports it, where interpretation begins, and which questions remain genuinely open.

Les Éditions du Rasoir therefore values explicit argument, accurate sourcing, fair representation of disputed positions, and transparency about the status of published claims.

Independence

Independent, not exempt from criticism.

Independence is not presented as proof that the house’s books are superior or immune from scrutiny. It preserves room for editorial choices that may not fit comfortably inside established institutional or commercial categories.

The same standard of scrutiny that the house values in public debate must also apply to its own publications.

Editorial policy

Artificial intelligence and transparency

Our approach is to disclose substantial AI involvement clearly, preserve human editorial responsibility, and describe translation-related AI use according to the circumstances of each work.
